The Technics SL1200MK2 is in contrast to cheaper models and makes a direct drive turntable. Turntables which are not direct drive powered actually slow down each time they are used, making mixing vinyl difficult, if not impossible. Due to the latency in the belt, the speed of that type of turntable is not stable. The effect between your actions (like stopping the record by hand) and the actual sound is delayed. The solution? A direct drive turntable. In this case the platter is powered by cogs. Any adjustment made in operating the turntable are directly noticeable. This type of drive train is essential for a DJ. Surface 

For optimal use of the Technics turntables a stable vibration-free surface is needed. These turntables do NOT come with freefloats. We recommend to prepare a DJ booth with foam and a heavy base.
