What’s in a name?

The Sennheiser MKE 40 tie clip microphone is ideally suited for the latter. Do not be distracted by the different names for this microphone. It’s not unusual for terms such as clip-on, lavalier, lapel or lapel microphone to be used. These are all names for the same type of microphone. The name of the microphone already reveals a great deal about how it works. The tie clip microphone is to be affixed to the tie. By doing this, the microphone will be close enough to catch enough sound and will always have an equal distance to the mouth. Because of this, the sound can always be absorbed evenly. This type of microphone is also often referred to as a lapel microphone.  This also has to do with the way the microphone is mounted. Not much changes about the mic itself. It simply means that you can also affix the microphone to the lapel of your jacket.

Applications

The tie pin, lapel, lavalier or clip-on microphone is mainly used for events with low ambient noise. This includes TV recordings, congresses and presentations. This microphone is less suitable for theatre shows, parties and sports. Because this microphone is placed further from the mouth than a handheld or headset microphone, this microphone catches too much noise.
